How to “Throw” Without “Casting”

Here’s a simple drill to help you understand how to throw the club without casting.
- Grab an alignment stick, any iron, toss the stick down the shaft under the left armpit.
- Simply get to the top of the backswing and try to throw the club head directly away from the target as fast as you can without letting the stick hit your chest.
- The stick hits the chest, that’s a cast.
- If it doesn’t, it’s not (a cast).
